Overview
Client: Komfi Rider
Role: Lead Developer
Project: Full WordPress rebuild for a UK mobility scooter and electric vehicle manufacturer
Komfi Rider is a family-run UK manufacturer of mobility scooters, power-assisted wheelchairs and electric utility vehicles, founded in 2006 and based in Godalming, Surrey. Their product range serves private individuals, care providers, estate managers and railway operators.
Despite strong products and an established market presence, their existing website had become a genuine barrier. Poor structure, no SEO foundations, and a mobile experience well below standard meant the platform was actively undermining confidence in the brand. A full rebuild from the ground up was the only viable path forward.
Challenges & Goals
When I was approached for the project, Komfi Rider had several significant problems with their existing platform:
- Poor visual presentation — The site no longer reflected the quality of the product range and was damaging brand credibility.
- Weak product architecture — Ranges were difficult to navigate, with no clear hierarchy guiding visitors from range to individual product.
- No analytics or tracking — There was no visibility over how visitors were using the site or where they were dropping off.
- No SEO foundations — The site had no structured on-page SEO, meaning organic search potential was completely unrealised.
- Poor mobile experience — The existing site was not built mobile-first and performed poorly on handheld devices.
- No clear conversion pathways — Stockist enquiries and product interest had no structured routes to action.
The goal was a platform that could be found in search, trusted on arrival, and acted upon without friction.
Why I Chose WordPress
WordPress was the right fit for Komfi Rider for several practical reasons:
- Flexible content architecture — Product ranges, individual products and supporting pages could all be structured cleanly within a custom WordPress build
- Client manageability — The team needed to be able to manage content themselves post-launch without developer dependency
- Plugin ecosystem — Stockist finder functionality and user manual search could be built efficiently using WordPress’s existing tooling
- SEO control — Full control over on-page SEO implementation across every page and product
- Performance headroom — A well-built WordPress site on solid hosting gives excellent performance without unnecessary overhead
Solution & Implementation
1. Platform Architecture
I planned the site structure around how Komfi Rider’s customers actually shop and research:
- Clear range segmentation across Freedom, Volthorse and Power Push
- Product hierarchy designed around customer intent, from range overview to individual product
- Stockist finder integrated and structured for usability
- User manual search functionality built in for existing customers
- SEO-friendly URL structure throughout
2. Design and Build
The visual rebuild focused on reflecting the quality of the product range:
- Full custom WordPress build from the ground up, nothing carried over from the old site
- Mobile-first throughout, built to perform on any device
- Product photography and imagery given proper prominence across range and product pages
- Trust and credibility elements integrated throughout, including brand heritage and stockist network
3. Conversion Architecture
Conversion pathways were designed deliberately rather than added as an afterthought:
- Clear calls to action aligned to buying intent at each stage of the journey
- Stockist finder placed prominently for customers ready to purchase
- Product pages structured to answer key questions before the visitor needs to contact anyone
- About and contact pages rebuilt for clarity and confidence
4. Technical and SEO Foundations
- On-page SEO implemented across all product, range and supporting pages from day one
- Analytics and tracking infrastructure installed at launch, not retrofitted later
- Site speed and performance optimised throughout the build
- Mobile performance tested across devices before launch
Results
The organic search results after launch demonstrated what a properly structured platform can deliver without any paid media spend:
- 27,000 total search impressions within weeks of launch
- 2,400 clicks from organic search
- 1,400 unique visitors from organic search alone
- Engagement rate consistently above 80% across top product pages
- Average session duration on key product pages above 2 minutes
- Organic search established as the dominant traffic channel from day one
Key Benefits Delivered
- A clean, professional platform that properly reflects the quality of the product range
- Structured product architecture that guides visitors from interest to action
- Strong organic search performance from launch, without paid amplification
- Full analytics visibility for the first time, giving the team real data to work with
- A platform the client team can manage and update independently
Lessons Learned
- Getting the product architecture right before building anything saved significant rework later
- Mobile-first discipline throughout the build, not as a retrofit, made a measurable difference to engagement
- Installing analytics from day one rather than post-launch meant no data was lost in the early high-traffic period after launch
- SEO foundations built into the structure rather than applied on top produced faster organic results than a typical post-build SEO pass would have
